Grand Valley Agricultural Society Receives Canada Post Community Foundation Support

The Grand Valley Agricultural Society received $550.00 from the Canada Post Community Foundation for an exciting project, Family Creativity Activity Stations, held at the 144th Grand Valley Fall Fair. A family friendly interactive, educational hands-on activity centre that provided different age-appropriate craft stations to create and explore new hobbies and techniques. The stations setup at the community fair, provided work-stations for youth to create projects and learn about Butterflies and Honeybees, with assistance from community volunteers. The Grand Valley Fall Fair is held the third weekend after Labour Day each year in Dufferin County, Ontario.

A non-profit organization led by volunteers from the local community, the Agricultural Society hosts the annual celebration. The Fall Fair is a three day event, which focuses on encouraging awareness and appreciation of agriculture and the rural lifestyle. To kick-off their event – a craft day was held in early August for children, free of charge to begin creating theme- related crafts to exhibit at the Fall Fair held in September. This event was provided with support from the Ontario Early Years Centre in Grand Valley. The Family Creativity Activity Stations will enable families to interact with different mediums to create items based on this years’ fair theme: Butterflies and Honeybees. They will learn about the importance of each, to our ecosystem and the impact on the economy. Ten craft and learning stations will be made available for families to visit throughout the weekend event. Youth volunteers will interact with children to share their learned knowledge and experience with youngsters. Information and hand-outs will be provided to take home, for further discussion and learning. Entry tags and exhibitor sheets are available to encourage youth to exhibit these items in the Fall Fair, with the opportunity to display their projects along with the chance to win prizes. We encourage involvement and participation with the community while in attendance at our local Fall Fair, to increase excitement and enhance the desire to learn about agriculture in the future.

“We are thrilled to have received word of the support of the Canada Post Community Foundation for our organization! Our small community works very hard to host one the largest family-friendly events in our area and as always, we are excited to offer new events. We encourage everyone to come visit our Fall Fair: explore, learn and share in all that Grand Valley has to offer!” says Pat Kalapaca, President of Grand Valley Agricultural Society. “We are proud of our employees and retirees who have devoted many hours to raising awareness and funds,” says Deepak Chopra, President and CEO, Canada Post. “The Canada Post Community Foundation aims to help community groups deliver a difference in the lives of children in communities across Canada.
